ITF – ILO MLC 2006 Seminar

The ITF-ILO MLC 2006 Seminar was held at Park Royal Hotel on 3-4 October, 2016. The event saw the attendance of several notable figures including U Tin Oo, Patron of the National League for Democracy, and Daw Ei Shwe Sin Nyunt, advisor of the Labour Department of NLD. They were joined by U Toe Myint, Director of the Seafarer Division, Department of Marine Administration, Ministry of Transport, along with officers from MSESF and IFOMS members.

The seminar commenced with a warm welcome speech from U Tin Oo, setting a collaborative tone for the event. Following the opening, John Whitlow, Secretary of Seafarers, Fisheries & Inland Navigation, and Secretary to the Seafarers Group of the ILO Joint Maritime Commission, explained the core objectives of the MLC Seminar.

The seminar featured several key discussions. Rossen Karavatche from the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) discussed "Compliance & Enforcement Transposition into national law & Tripartite Approach." This was followed by a session on "Compliance & Enforcement Tripartite Consultation" led by Kam Soon Huat, General Secretary of the Singapore Organization of Seamen.

Finally, Katie Higginbottom from the ITF presented on "Recruitment & Placement." The seminar concluded with engaging discussion groups where attendees could share insights and formulate strategies.
